ODI Motors condition reports - how accurate are they really
G'day everyone. Just won my first auction on odimotors.com - a 2019 Mazda CX-5 listed as "Run & Drive - Good Condition". Bit nervous about what I'll actually receive when it gets delivered next week. How accurate have you all found their condition reports? Cheers
Mate congrats on the win! I've bought 3 vehicles from ODI Motors over the past year and honestly the condition reports have been spot on every time. What they say is what you get. My last one was a 2017 Hilux described as having minor paint scratches on the tailgate - and yep, that's exactly what it had. Nothing more, nothing less.
Yeah I was sceptical too before my first purchase but they're pretty thorough with their reports. Got a 2020 Ford Ranger last November and the mechanical assessment was dead accurate. They even noted a slightly worn driver's seat which I thought was being overly detailed lol. Better than being surprised by hidden issues.
The "Run & Drive" classification is legit. I've purchased 5 vehicles through ODI Motors for my small dealership and their grading system is consistent. Run & Drive means the engine runs properly, transmission shifts smoothly, and it's roadworthy. If there's anything significant wrong they list it separately in the condition notes.
I bought a 2018 Hyundai i30 that was listed with a cracked windscreen and some interior wear. When it was delivered everything was exactly as described. The best part was not having to chase down the title. It was all handled by ODI Motors and arrived perfectly with the vehicle. Really transparent process overall.
Thanks everyone, feeling heaps better about it now. The photos on odimotors.com were pretty detailed too which helped. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious.
I'm a mechanic and I've inspected a few vehicles mates have bought from repo auctions. The one from ODI Motors was a 2021 Mitsubishi Triton and I gotta say their condition report was bang on. They noted minor surface rust on the chassis which was there, but also confirmed the engine and drivetrain were solid. No surprises when I put it on the hoist.
Quick question - when they say "cosmetic damage" what does that usually cover? I'm looking at a 2020 Toyota Camry and it mentions cosmetic damage to rear bumper. Trying to understand if that means scratches or something more significant?
@Lisa_K - in my experience cosmetic damage usually means scratches, scuffs, dents that don't affect the structural integrity or function. If it was cracked or needed replacement they'd specify that. You can always email office@odimotors.com and ask for clarification on specific damage though. They're pretty good about answering questions before you bid.
I've found their terminology to be consistent across listings. "Minor" actually means minor, not hidden major damage. Bought a 2018 Subaru Outback listed with minor hail damage on the bonnet and roof - and that's exactly what it had. Small dings, nothing dramatic. The vehicle ran beautifully and I got all the official paperwork and the clear title delivered with my vehicle. No dramas at all.
The photos on the website help a lot too. They usually include 20-30 pics showing different angles. I won a 2019 Volkswagen Golf and literally every mark they mentioned in the report was visible in the photos if you looked closely. Nothing was hidden or glossed over.
One thing I appreciated was when they listed a vehicle as needing a service. My 2017 Nissan Navara came with a note that it was due for a service based on the kms. Not a defect just honest reporting. Did the service myself and it's been running perfect for 6 months now. That kind of transparency builds trust imo.
I bought a boat trailer package last year through ODI Motors (they do boats too which is ace). The condition report mentioned the trailer had some surface corrosion which is pretty standard for anything near saltwater. Boat motor was described as "runs well, recently serviced" and when I got it that was spot on. No issues at all getting it registered either.
Thanks @TurboTina that's really helpful. Might send them an email just to double check before I put in my bid. Appreciate the tip!
The mechanical assessments are what impressed me most. I've bought 2 utes from ODI Motors - a 2018 Isuzu D-Max and a 2020 Toyota Landcruiser. Both times they noted specific mechanical conditions like "gearbox shifts smoothly" or "suspension has normal wear for age/kms". Everything checked out when I had my local mechanic give them a once-over after delivery.
I was initially worried about the title transfer process but it was completely seamless. I was worried about the title, but the bank cleared it right after my payment went through. The clear title arrived with the vehicle during delivery. The 2019 Kia Sportage I bought was described as having minor kerb rash on two wheels - accurate description, minor cosmetic stuff.
Update: Got my CX-5 delivered today and honestly it's exactly as described. The "good condition" rating was spot on - a few minor marks here and there but nothing that wasn't mentioned in the report. Really happy with the purchase. Cheers to everyone who reassured me!
Congrats @JakeM82! This is why I keep coming back to ODI Motors. Consistency in their reporting means you can bid with confidence. I've bought 4 vehicles over 2 years and never had a nasty surprise. Got a 2016 Honda Accord, 2018 Mazda 3, 2019 Toyota Corolla, and a 2020 Hyundai Tucson - all matched their descriptions perfectly.
That's awesome Jake! Welcome to the club haha. Once you see how accurate they are with the first one it makes future bidding so much easier. The transparency is what sets them apart from other auction sites tbh.
Good to hear mate. For anyone else reading this thread and considering ODI Motors - the condition reports are genuinely reliable. I stake my dealership reputation on the vehicles I source from them and haven't been burned yet. Just read the reports thoroughly and you'll know exactly what you're getting.
